Celebration Women’s History Month March 2021

The large majority of ancient cultures were patriarchal, and they practiced customs that held women in low esteem and limited their freedom. Through the centuries, many courageous women have stepped forward to fight inequality and to champion causes for the benefit of society. Their work to break down barriers has allowed future generations of women to pass through without resistance. Women’s History Month honours these women.

The women’s movement of the 1960s put the spotlight on women’s issues and made it clear that historical contributions by women had been completely discounted. As historian and activist Gerda Lerner said in 1986, “When I started working on women’s history about thirty years ago, the field did not exist. People didn’t think that women had a history worth knowing.” Lerner’s pioneering work has been responsible for the introduction of Women’s Studies programs into the university education system, and remarkable contributions by amazing women are now documented as part of history.

Some suggestions for individual celebrations of Women’s History Month include:

• Read a biography about a female pioneer, perhaps Amelia Earhart, one of the first ladies of aviation, paving the way for women in the flight industry
• Watch a film about women’s movement origins and suffragettes Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony
• Volunteer or make a donation to an organisation for women’s education
• Post a link about your most-admired woman in history on Facebook

In 1975, the UN officially recognized International Women’s Day. Women’s History Week is a progression of that, and Women’s History Month is a further extension. Throughout the month, various community events, internet blog series, television presentations and entertainment specials will be staged to look back on women’s achievements, to celebrate the progress made by women around the world, and to remember that there is still work to be done.

Celebration Credit Education Month March 2021

The History of Credit Education Month

In this month, credit professionals are on a mission to teach you about credit. This is a great time to manage your finances and get on top of your incomings and outgoings, and any credit you might have. Because credit can be a difficult thing to keep on top of, this month was created to ensure that anyone who either has or might be thinking about applying for credit knows exactly what to expect.

When you think of credit, you might first think of credit cards. A credit card is a payment card which you can use to buy items, but you won’t need to pay for them right away. Depending on your credit provider, you will need to pay the amount back later – most frequently, with a small percentage put on the original price to pay to the lender.

How well you manage something like a credit card will affect your credit rating, which is a score you are given so that lenders can decide whether to lend to you or not. This will come into play if you were to apply for another credit card, or for another instance of credit such as payments on a car or a mortgage.

How to Observe Credit Education Month

Not as on track with your finances as you would like? This month, sit down and make a note of all your incomings and outgoings. Make sure to list the most important things, such as rent, and allowances for food.

If you have credit cards, it’s best to pay them off as soon as possible. If you are able to put aside money at each paycheck, use it to pay off your cards – this will improve your credit rating, and keep it in the green for when you apply for big things like a mortgage.

National Peanut Month Activities

1. Do a movie marathon

   Chuck that bag of popcorn and that tub of ice-cream and instead, binge healthy while binging on Netflix. Get your gang together and buy double peanuts for more fun.

   Peanut allergies are one of the most common allergies around the world, and they can be fatal. Help scientists understand more about peanut allergies by donating to FARE (Food Allergy and Research Education). A little help goes a long way.

They are good for your heart as well as your mental health, and there are plenty of ways to use peanuts – George Washington Carver came up with 300! Given their goodness, it makes sense to have an entire month dedicated to them. Here’s to March, the National Peanut Month!

1. Make a DIY umbrella

   Help out individuals in your community who are less fortunate by hosting a month-long umbrella drive. Make posters and create event pages on social media platforms to raise awareness. Encourage family, friends, and neighbors to donate. At the end of the month, head down to a local agency that accepts donated items so that you can give all of your umbrellas new owners.

3. Do a photoshoot

   Gather a couple of your closest friends and head outdoors to do an umbrella photoshoot. Bring along a few different styles of umbrellas to be used as props, and spend a couple of hours exercising your creativity.
